A fatal road accident has claimed the lives of two persons and left five others injured following a multi-vehicle collision at Obere along the Ota–Idiroko Road in Ogun State.
According to the spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the crash occurred in the early hours of Tuesday after a truck rammed into several vehicles along the busy expressway.
The impact involved five vehicles, including a MAN Diesel truck, two Suzuki minibuses, and two TVS tricycles, resulting in multiple casualties.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the accident was caused by loss of control due to driver fatigue and excessive speeding, as the truck driver reportedly fell asleep while driving.
A total of 21 people were involved in the crash — with five sustaining injuries and two male victims confirmed dead.
Emergency responders, including TRACE operatives and the Federal Road Safety Corps, swiftly arrived at the scene to manage traffic and evacuate victims. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, while the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital in Ilaro.
Authorities have handed over the affected vehicles to the police for further investigation.
This incident adds to the growing concern over frequent road crashes along major highways in Ogun State, often linked to speeding, fatigue, and reckless driving.
