CRISIS BREWING: OGUN RESIDENTS ISSUE STERN WARNING OVER ARMED LAND GRABERS

Date:

A severe crisis is brewing across rural communities in Ogun State as hundreds of angry residents, agrarian workers, and local chiefs have issued a stern warning of an impending bloody clash over the unrestrained activities of armed land grabbers.

Demonstrating through major streets before submitting petitions to state authorities and security agencies, the protesters disclosed that heavily armed syndicates—backed by organized thugs—have invaded ancestral farmlands across several local government areas, forcibly dispossessing families of their properties and destroying mature agricultural investments.

 Key Highlights & Crisis Breakdown

  • Massive Agricultural Destruction: Over 500 hectares of cocoa, cassava, oil palm, and rubber plantations have been bulldozed or set ablaze by armed speculators.

  • Ultimatum to Authorities: Community leaders warned that if security agencies fail to dislodge the invaders within days, local youth forces will be forced to defend their ancestral inheritance, risking widespread violence.

  • Violation of State Anti-Land Grabbing Laws: Protesters accused state law enforcement of failing to strictly enforce the Ogun State Prohibition of Forcible Entry and Land Grabbing Law, allowing armed syndicates to operate with impunity under false court claims.

  • Rising Food Security Threat: Agrarian groups noted that forced displacement of thousands of local farmers directly threatens food supply chains and drives up food prices across Ogun and neighboring Lagos State.

Community Leaders Speak Out

Addressing reporters during the peaceful demonstration, community spokespersons expressed deep frustration over the apparent inaction of security operatives despite repeated distress calls.

“Our livelihoods have been completely wiped out. Farmers who took agricultural loans are now facing total financial ruin while armed grabbers build illegal structures on our land,” declared a youth leader from one of the affected communities. “We are giving a final warning: if government intervention does not happen immediately, the situation will degenerate into full-blown communal conflict.”

In response, government representatives assured the protesters that Governor Dapo Abiodun remains committed to protecting lives and property, promising a coordinated security crackdown on illegal land speculators and their sponsors.
