Milestone underscores commitment to food security, modern agriculture and economic growth

The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Poultry Farm has recorded another significant milestone in its drive to modernise agriculture, strengthen food security and maximise the economic value of public investment, following the successful transfer of its birds to a battery cage system.

The exercise, conducted on Friday, August 7, 2026, involved birds aged 85 days, with zero mortality recorded, further demonstrating the effectiveness of the farm’s management and animal-health protocols.

The milestone reflects the administration’s commitment to transforming agriculture from subsistence practice into a viable economic enterprise capable of creating jobs, generating revenue and contributing meaningfully to food security.

A farm supervisor described the successful transition as a testament to the effectiveness of the management system, noting that the absence of mortality during the exercise had strengthened the farm’s confidence in expanding production.

All birds have received their scheduled vaccinations and medications, while feed and water are supplied ad libitum. Strict biosecurity measures, proper litter management and continuous health monitoring are also being sustained.

Ten birds are currently being kept in isolation as part of enhanced surveillance, while the larger flock remains under routine observation.

The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government said the poultry project is part of its broader agricultural development strategy aimed at boosting local food production, creating employment, empowering the people and expanding the revenue base of the council.

The council reaffirmed its determination to expand the facility, embrace modern farming technologies and deploy best management practices, with the ultimate goal of making the poultry farm a model of productive public-sector agriculture in Ogun State.

The latest achievement further reinforces the administration’s resolve that agriculture must not only feed the people but also create wealth, provide jobs and deliver tangible economic value to the people of Ogun State.
