Ado-Odo/Ota PDP Adopts Ladi Adebutu as 2027 Governorship Candidate

Date:

The Ado-Odo/Ota chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unanimously adopted Ladi Adebutu as its preferred governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 election in Ogun State.

The decision was reached during the party’s general meeting held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, where members endorsed Adebutu in a show of unity and strategic positioning for the upcoming polls.

Top party officials were present at the meeting, including the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella, and the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government PDP Chairman, Ahmed Shuaib.

The unanimous adoption signals early consolidation within the party at the grassroots level as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship race in Ogun State.

The motion for Adebutu’s adoption was formally moved by Chief Faluyi Abiodun from Iju Ward and seconded by Mrs. Victoria Ogunwobi from Agbara Ward. The proposal received overwhelming support and was ratified through a unanimous voice vote, sparking excitement among party faithful.

Speaking after the unanimous adoption, the Ado-Odo/Ota PDP Chairman, Ahmed Shuaib, described the decision as a defining moment for the party at both the local and state levels.

He said the endorsement reflects the collective ambition of party members to reposition Ogun State for progress under credible leadership.

“This is a bold and historic decision by our party. It reflects our collective resolve to reposition Ogun State on the path of greatness under credible leadership,” Shuaib stated.

Also addressing party members, the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Dr. Abayomi Tella, welcomed the development, noting that the adoption will be duly acknowledged at the state level as a strong signal of political alignment and readiness for the 2027 governorship contest.

“The adoption of Ladi Adebutu is well received at the state level. It is a strong vote of confidence that signals readiness for victory in 2027,” Tella said.

He further emphasised the need for unity within the party, warning that internal cohesion would be critical to electoral success.

“Only a united PDP can secure victory at the polls. We must close ranks, strengthen cooperation, and work as one formidable force,” he added.

“As chairman, I belong to all 20 local governments. We will ensure fairness, equity, and that only the best candidates emerge across the state,” he said.

Dr. Tella used the occasion to stress the importance of unity, urging party leaders in Ado-Odo/Ota to proactively resolve internal disputes and strengthen cohesion at all levels.

“This party belongs to all of us. We must cooperate with our leaders and remain focused if we are to achieve greatness together,” he said.

He also charged the party’s local government executives to intensify grassroots mobilisation and expand the party’s visibility through an active and coordinated media strategy.

The state chairman congratulated Comrade Wole Omotaje on his emergence as PDP South-West Zonal Secretary, attributing his rise to “loyalty, commitment, and exemplary character.”

Tella further acknowledged the contributions of Engr. Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo and Mr. Tunji Bankole, commending their sustained support and role in strengthening the PDP structure in the local government.

On the issue of candidate selection, Tella assured aspirants of a transparent and inclusive primary process across Ogun State.

“All aspirants will be given a level playing field. Our goal is to present the most qualified and electable candidates for the 2027 elections,” he stated.

The early endorsement of Adebutu by a major PDP stronghold like Ado-Odo/Ota is seen as a strategic move to solidify internal consensus and build momentum ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 governorship race in Ogun State.
