Ogun Assembly Hosts Former Speakers, Lawmakers to Mark Golden Jubilee

The Ogun State House of Assembly has played host to former Speakers and lawmakers at a Special Plenary to mark the Golden Jubilee of the State.

The Special Plenary, held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, attracted former Speakers including Mr Suraju Adekunbi, Mrs Titi Oseni, Mr Muyiwa Oladipo and Mr Olakunle Oluomo.

They congratulated the Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun; the Speaker, Mr Oludaisi Elemide; members of the Assembly and the people of Ogun State on the 50th anniversary of the State.

The former Speakers noted that Ogun State has recorded remarkable progress in industrial development, education, revenue generation and overall economic performance.

They commended past and present legislators for sustaining democratic ideals and legislative stability through mutual cooperation in advancing development across the State.

They also acknowledged the contributions of heroes past, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, as well as past governors, legislators, civil servants and other statesmen, to the growth and development of Ogun State.

Similarly, former lawmakers present at the plenary, including Mr Dipo Akingbade, former Majority Leader Chief Bode Adeaga, Mr Olufemi Allen-Taylor, Mrs Olakemi Akintayo and Mrs Adijat Adeleye, commended the visible developmental strides recorded since the creation of the State in 1976, particularly in population growth, economic expansion and infrastructure.

The former legislators called for full financial autonomy for the legislative arm, continuity in legislative tenure through multiple terms to enhance experience, and the creation of additional constituencies to reflect population growth.

In their remarks, serving members of the Assembly, including the Majority Leader, Mr Yusuf Sherif; Minority Leader, Mr Lukman Adeleye; as well as Mr Adebisi Oyedele, Mr Damilola Soneye, Mr Samsideen Lawal and Mr Wahab Haruna, expressed gratitude to God, the Governor and their constituents for the opportunity to serve.

Responding, the Speaker of the House, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms, which he said has contributed to the achievements recorded in the last seven years.

The Speaker specifically praised the Governor for approving the renovation, redesign and upgrade of the Assembly Complex, describing the move as vital to enhancing legislative efficiency and institutional capacity.

He also appreciated the Governor for approving constituency projects valued at one hundred and fifty million naira for each of the 26 state constituencies, while reiterating the need for greater legislative autonomy to strengthen democracy and service delivery in Ogun State.
