Ogun PDP Chieftain Akinloye Bankole Dump PDP, Joins APC

Date:

Former Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party Publicity Secretary and former Director of Media and Communication, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole (JP), has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and as pitch tent with All Progressive Congress, APC.

In a letter made available to the media, Akinloye cited what he described as the party’s steady collapse into a political appendage of the ruling All Progressives Congress as one of the reasons he dumped the party.

Bankole announced his resignation in a strongly worded letter addressed to the party leadership, describing his decision as both “difficult” and “painful,” but necessary in view of developments within the PDP over the last one year.

The former PDP spokesman said recent political events had reduced the opposition party to “a mere support group” for the APC, insisting that the PDP had become “a thoroughly dilapidated vehicle” incapable of guaranteeing his political future, aspirations and personal growth.

“This is indeed a very difficult, and painful decision that has to be taken now as political events in the last one year have reduced the PDP to a mere support group of the ruling APC,” Bankole stated.

He added, “Our PDP is a thoroughly dilapidated vehicle that can no longer guarantee my personal political growth, interests and aspirations.”

Bankole, who joined the PDP in 2002, expressed appreciation to the party structure and leadership for giving him the opportunity to contribute to its growth over the years.

He reserved special praise for Ogun PDP leader, Hon. Dr. Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, popularly known as LADO, describing him as “a wonderful leader” whose courage, resilience and commitment to Ogun State would be remembered by history.

“History, in its fairness, will definitely remember and reward his uncommon courage, resilience and steadfast dedication to the good of Ogun State,” he wrote.

The former media director also acknowledged the support of Omo’ba Dr. Sunday Solarin, whom he described as “an incredibly priceless asset to Ogun State,” while thanking members of the LADO media team and the Directorate of Media and Communication for their loyalty and commitment.

Despite his exit from the PDP, Bankole hinted that he may soon pitch his tent elsewhere politically, declaring that “political idleness is a luxury” he could not afford at this stage of his life.

“I shall make my next political habitat known to the general public as soon as I complete consultations with my family and associates,” he said.

His resignation adds to the growing list of defections and internal crises rocking the PDP ahead of future political realignments in Ogun State and across the country.
