Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled an attempt to smuggle a stolen 28-seater Toyota Coaster bus across the border and arrested two suspects in Idiroko.
The Divisional Police Officer, Idiroko Division, CSP Adejuwon Ariyo, led the operation on June 12, 2026 at about 11:00 p.m. following credible intelligence that the suspects planned to move the bus from Babaloke area of Idiroko into Benin Republic for illegal sale.
Acting on the tip-off, CSP Ariyo deployed a surveillance team that intercepted the suspects mid-operation. Police demobilised the vehicle by shooting one of its tyres to prevent it from crossing the border. The suspects and the stolen bus were recovered at the scene.
The suspects, Seun Lawal, 46, a driver, and Ademola Oriyomi, 38, his guarantor, allegedly conspired to steal and sell the bus in Benin Republic. Preliminary investigation revealed they planned to use proceeds from the sale to fund relocation after the illegal transaction.
Both suspects are in custody as police investigate possible links to wider cross-border vehicle theft syndicates.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended CSP Ariyo and the Idiroko Division team for the intelligence-led operation and quick response. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and securing border communities against cross-border crimes.
