Remo Chief Imam Emerges Ogun League of Imams President, Vows Unity, Progress

Date:

The Grand Chief Imam of Remoland, Sagamu, Alhaji Shehu Abdul Quadri Abiodun Jinadu, has been appointed as the new President of the League of Imams and Alfas (RABITAH), Ogun State, with stakeholders charging him to prioritise unity among Muslims and strengthen engagement with the government on issues affecting the Ummah.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that Jinadu’s appointment followed the league’s long-standing rotational leadership arrangement, which ceded the presidency to the Remo Zone after the completion of the tenure of the immediate past leadership.

His appointment was formally announced on Monday during a ceremony held at the Egba Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta, where a letter of appointment jointly presented by the Grand Chief Imams of the Ijebu, Yewa and Egba zones was handed over to the new president.

The appointment letter, signed by the Secretary-General of the League of Imams and Alfas, Sheikh Tajudeen Adewunmi, stated that the transition was in line with the rotational presidency of the organisation.

“As your eminence is aware of the rotational presidency of Ogun State Rabitah, it is time for Remo Zone to take up the mantle of leadership. Your Eminence has therefore been appointed as the President of the League from today, the 22nd of Muharram, 1447 AH, corresponding to July 7, 2026.

“It is our hope and prayer that your relentless efforts will steer the league towards greater prosperity, unity and peaceful coexistence with all. We pray Almighty Allah grants you sound health, wisdom and strength to serve not only Muslims but all sons and daughters of Ogun State,” the letter read.

Speaking with PLATFORM TIMES shortly after the presentation, the Wakeel Muslimeen of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States advised Jinadu to maintain close engagement with government authorities in promoting the welfare of Muslims.

He also encouraged the new president to champion equitable representation of Muslims in public service and leadership positions while providing righteous and inclusive leadership for the Ummah.

In his remarks, the Secretary-General of the Ogun State Muslim Council, Alhaji Kamaldeen Akintunde, expressed confidence in the new president’s ability to foster harmony within the Muslim community.

He urged Jinadu to make the unity of the Ummah his foremost priority while also promoting peaceful coexistence among religious groups across the state.

“We wish him a successful tenure and pray that he will work tirelessly to unite Muslims. He should also ensure that Muslims receive their rightful place in the state while sustaining intra-faith harmony, which is essential for the growth and unity of the Ummah,” Akintunde said.

Also speaking on behalf of the Remo Muslim community, the Chief Imam of Makun Muslim Community, Sagamu, Sheikh Tajudeen Ashaye, described the emergence of Jinadu as a victory for consensus and peaceful succession.

He explained that the rotational leadership arrangement had once again demonstrated the maturity and unity within the league.

“We are delighted because this transition was achieved without conflict or confrontation. It reflects the culture of consensus that the League of Imams has sustained over the years,” he said.

Ashaye described the new president as an experienced administrator and community leader who had previously served in various leadership capacities.

“He is a man of the people and has led several organisations successfully. Leadership is about responsibility, trust, compassion and service, and we believe he possesses these qualities to lead the league effectively,” he added.

The new Ameerah of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Alhaja Bilikis Ojuolape Saulah, called on the new president to unite all Muslim organisations under a common vision.

She urged him to collaborate with various Islamic groups and advocate for policies that would advance the interests of Muslims in Ogun State.
