Egba Ogboni Set to Convene Leadership, Development, Cultural Renewal Workshop in Abeokuta September 10

Date:

The Egba Ogboni is set to bring together about 400 members, traditional leaders and stakeholders in Egbaland for a major workshop focused on strengthening responsible leadership, ethical conduct, peaceful coexistence and sustainable community development.
The workshop, themed “Building a Better Egba Ogboni: Prospects and Challenges,” is scheduled for Thursday morning, September 10, 2026, at the Adire Hall, Ake Palace, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Organised by the Egba Ogboni in collaboration with Hirealms Resources Limited, the event is designed to provide a platform for reflection, knowledge sharing and capacity building on the evolving role of traditional and community institutions in contemporary society.
Participants are expected from the various Egba divisions, including Egba Ake (Eku, Aarin and Agbeyin), Egba Oke-Ona, Egba Gbagura and Egba Owu. Distinguished traditional rulers, invited dignitaries and other stakeholders are also expected to attend.
According to the organisers, the workshop will feature expert presentations, interactive sessions, practical discussions, question-and-answer sessions and case studies addressing the responsibilities of traditional institutions and their members.
Key areas of focus will include the preservation of cultural values, responsible leadership, discipline, ethical behaviour, justice, peaceful coexistence and the contribution of traditional institutions to community development.

The forthcoming workshop builds on the maiden edition held on November 30, 2022, which attracted 137 participants. Organisers said the 2026 edition has been expanded to provide a broader platform for constructive engagement and deeper reflection on the future of Egba Ogboni.

The initiative, according to the planning committee, is particularly significant against the backdrop of the need for traditional and community institutions to remain relevant in addressing contemporary social, cultural and developmental challenges.
Speaking on the significance of the programme, Chief Ade-Adeniji A., Baasala Ijemo Egba and Chairman of the Planning Committee, said the workshop was conceived to encourage responsible participation in community affairs while promoting values that can contribute to the advancement of Egbaland.

The organisers said they expect the gathering to strengthen collaboration among members and stakeholders while encouraging a shared commitment to justice, peace, cultural preservation and sustainable development.

The event is also expected to provide an opportunity for participants to examine the prospects and challenges confronting the Egba Ogboni institution and explore practical ways of ensuring that its values remain relevant in a changing society.
With the participation of representatives from across the Egba divisions, the organisers believe the workshop will further promote unity, knowledge and responsible leadership within Egbaland.

The Egba Ogboni has consequently solicited support of members of the media to provide pre-event publicity, on-the-spot reporting, interviews with organisers and dignitaries, photographic coverage and post-event reports to enable a wider audience, including Nigerians and members of the Egba community in the diaspora, to follow the proceedings and outcomes of the workshop.
