The Ogun State 2027 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has been honoured with the Doctor of Leadership Award at the Leadership Empowerment International Conference (LEIC) Nigeria 2026, held at the Egbetokun Events Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta.
The event attracted prominent Nigerians, traditional rulers, political leaders, business executives and other stakeholders, including former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, renowned football administrator and former international footballer, Chief Segun Odegbami, as well as respected traditional rulers and community leaders.
Adebutu’s recognition, according to the organisers, was in acknowledgement of his leadership qualities, commitment to public service and contributions to the development of society.
The occasion also witnessed a strong presence of the Ogun State PDP leadership, led by the state chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Abayomi Tella, alongside members of the state executive, elders, leaders, directors, stakeholders and party supporters.
Speaking after receiving the award, Adebutu stressed the importance of ideology, transparency, integrity and trust in effective leadership.
“For good leadership, you must have an ideology you stand on. And for leadership to strive, you must be transparent, honourable and trustful to yourself,” he said.
The PDP governorship candidate also outlined his vision for Ogun State, promising a government that would prioritise functional local governments, timely payment of pensions, rural development, respect for traditional institutions and greater employment opportunities for young people.
He emphasised that the development of Ogun State must extend beyond major urban centres to communities and rural areas across the state.
The gathering provided an opportunity for political stakeholders and members of the public to hear Adebutu’s vision for the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The award comes as political activities intensify across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and aspirants presenting their programmes and leadership credentials to the electorate.
Adebutu called for leadership anchored on character, accountability and service, stressing that the people of Ogun State deserve a government that is responsive to their needs.
