BOOT Party Candidate Adenuga Meets Ogun Labour Union, Pledges Dual Pensions, Workers’ Welfare

Date:

Engineer Adekunle Adenuga, the governorship candidate of the BOOT Party in Ogun State, has declared that no other political party in Nigeria understands the needs of workers as well as his party.

Adenuga made the declaration during a stakeholder engagement with the Ogun State Labour Union in Abeokuta on Thursday. The meeting brought together representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), RATAWU, NULGE, the Automobile Association, market men and women, and other interest groups.

The interactive session provided an opportunity for Adenuga to listen to the concerns of workers and traders while outlining his vision for labour relations, governance and economic empowerment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Describing himself as a product of labour and a bearer of the labour spirit, the governorship candidate promised that his administration would promote synergy among workers, the judiciary and other arms of government while respecting the principle of separation of powers.

He also said his experience and professional background would be deployed to address the state’s electricity challenges, promising to work towards ensuring a steady power supply across Ogun State and making the state a model for others to emulate.

Adenuga further pledged to support mechanics through access to modern technologies and empowerment programmes. He disclosed that he had been developing plans to empower market men and women for more than six years, adding that the time had come to unveil and implement them.

On workers’ welfare, the BOOT Party candidate promised to introduce a dual-pension framework under which workers would be entitled to two pensions: one paid directly by the government and another by the establishment where they had served.

He argued that the existing system shortchanges workers who have devoted their productive years to public service, promising that his administration would address the situation and ensure that workers receive adequate benefits after retirement.

Adenuga also addressed the issue of local government autonomy, insisting that it would not amount to what he described as “audio money” under his administration.

He promised to ensure genuine local government autonomy, giving councils effective control over their resources to enable them to deliver meaningful development at the grassroots.

The state chairman of the BOOT Party, Architect Akerele, who also addressed the gathering, said any political party seeking electoral success must recognise workers as a critical constituency.

He stressed that the BOOT Party’s commitment to labour was not merely rhetorical but rooted in its policies and programmes.

According to him, the party’s agenda for workers, artisans and traders was comprehensive, while Adenuga’s background as a product of labour positioned him as a suitable candidate for Ogun State workers.

The labour representatives expressed appreciation for Adenuga’s engagement, describing the session as one of the most substantive interactions they had held with a governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

They said Adenuga demonstrated an understanding of the challenges confronting workers and traders, noting that his promises on dual pensions, electricity supply, local government autonomy, market empowerment and support for mechanics addressed issues they believed had received insufficient attention from successive administrations.

The engagement highlighted the BOOT Party’s efforts to position itself as a party committed to workers’ welfare and grassroots development, with Adenuga presenting an agenda focused on the everyday concerns of workers, artisans, traders and other residents of Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
