Ogun Police Arrest 14 Suspected Cultists in Midnight Raid, Recover Firearms and Vehicle
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 14 suspects during a midnight operation across the Isara, Ipara and Ode axis of the state, following intelligence reports of an alleged unlawful assembly linked to cult-related activities.
The arrests were made in the early hours of Friday, January 24, 2026, when operatives uncovered plans by suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity to initiate new members and disrupt public peace at a bush location in Ipara-Remo.
According to the Command, the operation, carried out at about 1:20 a.m., was led by a joint team from the Anti-Cultism Unit and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), with support from officers of the Ipara and Isara divisions.
Fourteen suspects—13 males and one female—were apprehended during the coordinated sweep. Those arrested were identified as Solomon Shobamiwo, also known as “Solo Hot,” Farooq Ogunsola, Toheeb Abolade, Balogun Williams, Ayodele Abdulkareem, Adedapo Ogunsanya, Toheeb Saka, Akpan Dara, Micheal Olakemi, Habeeb Olayinka, Dapo Adeola, Adetunji Adeyemi, Henry Kingsley, and Nanso Blessing.
Items recovered from the suspects include three locally made pistols, 11 live cartridges, four rounds of 9mm Beretta ammunition, suspected criminal charms, confraternity caps, a drum believed to be used for cult initiation, 19 mobile phones, a Samsung mini laptop and nine vehicles of various brands. Police said some of the vehicles were without registration plates, while others carried unauthorized dealer plates.
The suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries, the police said.
Meanwhile, the Command has intensified intelligence-led patrols and sweep operations in the affected areas to apprehend fleeing suspects and maintain peace across the axis.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, Ph.D., condemned unlawful assembly, cultism and all forms of criminal activities. He urged youths to renounce cult-related associations and warned that the Command would not relent in its crackdown on crime.
The police assured residents of the state of their continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property and called on members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
