OGuN SPEAKER COMMISSIONS RENOVATED CHEMISTRY LAB AT ALMA MATER

Date:

…PROMISES MORE DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Olusegun Victor Elemide, at the weekend paid an emotional and memorable visit to his alma mater, Rev. Kuti Memorial Grammar School, Abeokuta, where he commissioned the newly renovated Chemistry Laboratory undertaken by the 1981 Set of the school.

The laboratory, which had suffered years of neglect, was given a new lease of life through the collective efforts of the 1981 Set, a development widely applauded by old students, staff and members of the school community who witnessed the commissioning ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. Elemide reflected on his journey from the classroom to public service, expressing profound gratitude to his former teachers, old students and mentors who contributed to his growth and political journey.

The Speaker recalled that when he first ventured into politics in the year 2000, members of the old students’ association stood firmly behind him, producing exercise books and sponsoring the first campaign souvenir materials he distributed during the electioneering period.

According to him, “I can never forget the support and encouragement I received from this school and its old students. They planted the seed many years ago, and today that seed has germinated and continues to flourish. If I refuse to give back to this school, I will simply be an ingrate.”

Rt. Hon. Elemide also paid glowing tribute to members of the 1981 Set, fondly recalling how they were then known as the “Special Class” and how the set pioneered student politics within the school, leading to his emergence as Assistant Class Captain.

While appreciating members of staff for their dedication and sacrifices over the years, the Speaker appealed to them to remain committed and continue to support the growth of the institution, assuring them that efforts would continue to be made to improve their working environment and welfare within available resources.

He further pledged that the 1981 Set would continue to prioritise projects and initiatives that would enhance teaching, learning and infrastructure within the school.

The Speaker also visited the school’s library, which he described as requiring urgent attention, and assured the management that efforts would be made to facilitate its renovation and restoration.

During an inspection of portions of the school’s land allegedly encroached upon by suspected land grabbers, Rt. Hon. Elemide expressed concern over the development and assured the school community that necessary steps would be taken to protect the institution’s assets and recover encroached areas.

He concluded by praying for continued unity, progress and greater accomplishments among members of the 1981 Set, while reaffirming their collective commitment to preserving the legacy and future of Rev. Kuti Memorial Grammar School.

“We thank God for where He has brought us today. My prayer is that He continues to bind us together in love, unity and greatness. As a set, we will continue to stand for the growth, development and advancement of our beloved school,” the Speaker stated.
